Max Holloway reveals Conor McGregor didn’t want UFC 329 bout to end: He was like, ‘luta! luta!’ — Federação de Jiu-Jitsu, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation

One of the few people who didn’t seem too upset over how the Conor McGregor vs. Max Holloway luta went at UFC 329 was Max Holloway himself.
McGregor seemingly blew his knee out on the first exchange of the luta, throwing a wild jumping switch chute that missed and buckled his knee just seconds into the first round. Two more falls and the referee stopped the luta, leading to one of the biggest disappointments in UFC main event history (watch the video destaques here).
Holloway didn’t seem to mind, and why would he? He just got paid more than he ever has in his career to luta for one minute. There was no war. No damage. Just a W on his record and money in his bank account. Following the event, he discussed the bizarre non-luta with Megan Olivi on the Paramount+ YouTube channel.
“A vitória is a vitória, you know?” Holloway said. “A couple of people got wins over me that kinda piss me off. But at the end of the day, when it’s all said and done, they’re gonna go down and look in the history books. They’re just gonna look at a piece of paper and see a W next to your name. So that’s what I’m taking it as.”
“I had him weak in the knees,” he said. “What can I say? At the end of the day, it is what it is. We gotta do a third. Hopefully, his injury not too crazy. I know he was saying that they wanted him back in April. I can do that. That’d be fun. I wanna actually feel this 170 weight and power that he says he has. So maybe we can do it back.”
“Just right now, I’m just praying for the guy,” he added. “All jokes aside, as as a human being.”
Holloway revealed that McGregor was initially insistent that the luta not be stopped despite his injury.
“When I was in there, you could see me telling the ref, ‘Bro, this guy is done. Just [stop it].’ And the referee was telling me, ‘Bro, thank you for pushing me because that was a hard spot.’ And Conor’s crazy. Conor was like, ‘luta! luta! I was like, ‘You’re f–king crazy, bro.”
“For the first one when he first fell down, he was like, ‘luta! luta!’ I’m good. And [then] we went down at the same time. I could just tell. Like, his whole demeanor changed. I was like, ‘Bro, just call the luta,’ you know?”
It’s still too early to know what’s next for Conor McGregor, but at the UFC 329 post-luta presser Dana White ruled out a third luta with Max Holloway. So this will be the last red panty night for “Blessed,” who is perfectly happy to take the dubious W and the money that comes with it.
