Craig Jones Compartilha Atualização CJI 3: 'Não Espere Um Milhão de Dólares de Novo' — Federação de Jiu-Jitsu, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation

Federação de Jiu-Jitsu: There has been a lot of speculation around CJI 3 and in a recent Q & A session, Craig Jones actually shared a small update on the event. It was always going to be a hot topic of course, as the first two events that Jones staged were among the biggest in the history of the sport. The inaugural CJI broke completely new ground in the sport by becoming the first tournament to pay the winner, two of them in fact, a million dollars and the second edition of CJI switched a team-grappling format and invited most of the world’s top academies to compete.

One of the main factors in the incredible success of CJI has undoubtedly been the massive amounts of prize money available, especially because that has also allowed Jones to attract the biggest names in the sport. According to one of his answers in that  Q & A though, that looks to be changing now:

“Obviously I’m not good with finances, so don’t expect a million dollars again, but expect something exciting to happen… CJI’s back… If it ain’t in the pit, it ain’t s**t.”

This is a big change since the last time he shared some information, when he pitched the idea of a $10 million tournament between 8 competitors. Regardless of whether CJI paid out a smaller amount for their next event, their return would still be huge news and the prestige along will guarantee that some big names would be competing. Even without crazy sums of money going to athletes, events are still very expensive to run of course. Jones actually hinted at the overall costs of the first two events in a tongue-in-cheek comment later on:

“In hindsight, sure, I wish I had embezzled $7 million into my bank account, but I didn’t. And I’m happy for them to have it.”
