Federação de Jiu-Jitsu:
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - JULY 11: Conor McGregor of Ireland reacts to the injury stoppage in a welterweight fight during the UFC 329 event at T-Mobile Arena on July 11, 2026 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Conor McGregor’s comeback dreams were instantly shattered on his very first chute, hurting his right knee and losing to Max Holloway due to injury. McGregor didn’t stick around after the anticlimactic UFC 329 main event, ditching both his post-luta interview and the press conference after, as he walked straight out of the arena barefoot.

McGregor eventually decided to break his silence with a brief statement on social media, where he tried to put an end to the growing speculation that he came into UFC 329 with an injury.

“My head gasket is gone. Destroyed,” McGregor wrote about the loss. “I had no injury / injuries going into the luta. I was throwing kicks, planted and jumping, all throughout camp as well as backstage before the luta. This came out of nowhere.

“I am beyond dark here. I can only describe it as hell,” he added.

McGregor also isn’t looking to hang up the gloves, as he vowed to make a return.

“I was so sharp and so ready for this luta I cannot believe what has happened. The talk of me being off while walking in to the luta is nonsense. I was calm, ready, and confident. I am in shock what has taken place,” McGregor wrote in a follow up tweet.

“The devil is literally staring at me right in front of my face here. I am not engaging. I will be at church tomorrow,” he continued. “I will overcome this. I will not be deterred. I will return.”

Despite videos of him stumbling prior to the contest, his camp previously noted how they were “super careful” and that McGregor was “100%” healthy prior, with “not a bump, not a bruise.” Dana White also pushed back on any speculation about a pre-luta injury.

In his first luta against Holloway all the way back in 2013, McGregor tore his left ACL in the bout and still ended up winning by decision. In this 2026 rematch, McGregor lost because of an injury to his right knee.
