Jiu-Jitsu Federation: The 12th edition of the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam Jiu-Jitsu Rio de Janeiro was concluded on the 12th with a positive balance by the organization. One of the main stages of the Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu Pro (AJP) calendar, the competition brought together athletes from youth, amateur, professional and master categories. Over the two days of competition, Rio de Janeiro received thousands of visitors including competitors, coaches, directors, technical teams and families, strengthening sports tourism and expanding resource circulation in the local economy.
Beyond the impact on the tourism sector, the championship generated temporary jobs in the areas of structure assembly, production, security, refereeing, technical operation, communication, cleaning and public service, reinforcing the potential of major sporting events as drivers of economic development.
The Grand Slam also left an important social legacy. In partnership with the State Department of Sports and Leisure, the organization provided over 900 free registrations for athletes from social projects developed in Fluminense communities, giving children, adolescents and adults the opportunity to compete in one of the most prestigious tournaments on the world jiu-jitsu circuit.
For the state secretary of Sports and Leisure, Rodrigo Scorzelli, the consolidation of the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam on the state's sports calendar demonstrates the impact that major competitions can have on the economy and population.
"The Abu Dhabi Grand Slam has established itself as one of the major sporting events held in Rio de Janeiro. Beyond the technical excellence of the competition, it energizes the economy, strengthens sports tourism and creates opportunities for hundreds of young people who come through social projects. It is an investment that generates returns for the state and leaves a legacy for sports."
One of the architects of the partnership between AJP and the State Government, state deputy Rafael Picciani highlighted that the event combines sports development, economic impact and social inclusion.
"Sport has the ability to transform realities and open paths for thousands of people. When we manage to bring an event of this size to Rio de Janeiro, the benefit goes far beyond the competition. The city receives visitors, energizes its economy and, at the same time, offers opportunities for athletes who might never have access to an international championship. This is the kind of public policy that produces concrete results for sports and society."
The Abu Dhabi Grand Slam Jiu-Jitsu Rio de Janeiro was presented by Ofir Institute, with co-production by AJP Brazil, and realized thanks to sponsorship from Light, through the Sports Incentive Law of the State of Rio de Janeiro.
