On a roll, Denise Gomes faces Chinese former title challenger at UFC Shanghai — Federação de Jiu-Jitsu, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation

Federação de Jiu-Jitsu: A true clash of generations in women's MMA is confirmed for UFC Shanghai. On August 29, Denise Gomes and Yan Xiaonan will measure up in a bout that promises to shake up the top of the strawweight (52 kg) rankings. The official announcement of the bout was made this Thursday (16th) via the Ultimate's social media (see below or click here).

At 26 years old and on a roll in the UFC, coming off four straight wins, Denise Gomes will have a golden opportunity to move even closer to the top of the division. After all, on the other side of the octagon will be a former strawweight title challenger. Now 37, China's Yan Xiaonan sits at No. 5 in the rankings, while the Brazilian is No. 13. As such, a win could represent a significant leap for the striker from Rio Grande do Sul.

Main event

Besides the classic Brazil vs China matchup among the women, the UFC Shanghai card also already has its main event set. Hometown fighter Song Yadong will have the tough task of facing Khabib Nurmagomedov's cousin: Umar Nurmagomedov. The clash between the Chinese and Russian fighters, pitting the current No. 6 against the current No. 3 in the rankings respectively, could earn the winner a title shot in the bantamweight division (61 kg).
