Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation: The Brazilian Navy secured the Armed Forces Jiu-Jitsu Championship back-to-back crown by finishing first in the overall standings again. The second edition of the competition was held last weekend at the Admiral Adalberto Nunes Physical Education Center (CEFAN) in Rio de Janeiro and brought together 160 military personnel. The Brazilian Army took second place, while the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) rounded out the podium.

Promoted by the Ministry of Defense, through the Military Sports Commission of Brazil (CDMB), and with support from the Legion of Good Will (LBV) and Brazil Combat, the Armed Forces Championship was part of the jiu-jitsu programming held at CEFAN over the weekend. Alongside the competitions between military personnel, the complex hosted the Brazilian Kids Jiu-Jitsu Championship, promoted by the Brazilian Confederation of Sport Jiu-Jitsu (CBJJD) and the Rio de Janeiro State Federation of Sport Jiu-Jitsu (FJJD-Rio). Combined competitions over the two days brought 2,350 athletes to the mats, with estimated daily foot traffic of about 2,000 people.

In the Armed Forces Championship, the Navy was represented by the Navy Sports Commission (CDM), the Army by the Army Sports Commission (CDE) and the Air Force by the Air Force Sports Commission (CDA). The second edition maintained the proposal of placing military personnel from the three institutions head-to-head on the mats while simultaneously using the sport as a point of integration among the Forces.

President of the Military Sports Commission of Brazil, Air Brigadier Alexandre attended the competitions and highlighted jiu-jitsu characteristics that align with military training, such as discipline, respect and dedication.

"Sport is transformative of lives, and jiu-jitsu demonstrates grit and brings discipline. Young people grow in an environment of respect, learning that someone is stronger, someone is weaker, but everyone must be treated with respect. It is a joy to have the Armed Forces united here alongside the Jiu-Jitsu Confederation and the LBV. The LBV is able to deliver food to the most vulnerable population and also values through moments like this one. Without them, this would not be possible," he stated.

The Legion of Good Will participated again in the initiative, maintaining a partnership that had already occurred in the first edition. The presence of the institution gave social character to the programming and brought sports mobilization closer to the work developed with people served by the LBV.

For Colonel Wanderson Menezes dos Santos, Vice-President of the Air Force Sports Commission, holding the championship is also related to characteristics of military activity itself.

"This synergy and all this representativeness make us very happy. Sport is very important to us because it comes close to aspects of military activity. The Air Force Sports Commission is here with the support of the LBV and other partners. Sport and solidarity are closely linked, and we are very happy to participate in this social action. We want to strengthen this partnership with the LBV again and again," he said.

Integration among Navy, Army and Air Force was also highlighted by Colonel Marcelo, Vice-President of the Army Sports Commission. For him, sports competition functions as an opportunity for interaction among military personnel who work together in other situations.

"These championships are very good because, despite the competitiveness, they unite the Forces and show the cohesion that exists among them. No single Force fights alone. Jiu-Jitsu develops attributes inherent to the military, such as decision-making, courage and respect for the opponent. The sport manages to unite various sectors of society around a competition. We can only thank the LBV for supporting the sport and the Armed Forces," he stated.

The programming at CEFAN also included the Brazilian Kids Jiu-Jitsu Championship, promoted by the Brazilian Confederation of Sport Jiu-Jitsu (CBJJD) and the Rio de Janeiro State Federation of Sport Jiu-Jitsu (FJJD-Rio). The presence of the youth categories placed young competitors in the same environment that received military athletes.

Black belt in jiu-jitsu and UFC commentator, Carlão Barreto attended the programming and drew attention to the proximity between the sport, the Armed Forces and social projects.

"I am very happy to see the technical level of the competition. When the Armed Forces embrace jiu-jitsu, the results are very significant. In Rio de Janeiro, the foundation coming from social projects makes a difference in athlete development. And I cannot fail to mention the contribution of the LBV to martial arts. It is a longtime partnership, many years supporting and encouraging combat sports in Rio de Janeiro, and it will still bear much good fruit," said Carlão.

The competition was also supported by Super Radio Brasil and National Paints.
